THE HOLDOVERS represents a new step for David Hemingson, who, after a long and comfortable career in television, has now stepped into an entirely different arena—and found Oscar buzz to boot. Hemingson is an established producer and writer, known for Whiskey Cavalier (2019), Kitchen Confidential (2005), Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23 (2012) and Just Shoot Me! (1997). He was nominated for a Writers Guild of America (WGA) award for Kitchen Confidential.

From acclaimed director Alexander Payne, THE HOLDOVERS follows a curmudgeonly instructor (Paul Giamatti) at a New England prep school who is forced to remain on campus during Christmas break to babysit the handful of students with nowhere to go. Eventually, he forms an unlikely bond with one of them -- a damaged, brainy troublemaker (newcomer Dominic Sessa) -- and with the school’s head cook, who has just lost a son in Vietnam (Da’Vine Joy Randolph).
