Internationally acclaimed as one of the most versatile Jazz pianists playing today, Larry Vuckovich returns to the Cameo with bassist Doug Miller and guitarist Kai Lyons for an afternoon of Jazz. The concert will feature the music of Nat King Cole, Oscar Peterson, Ahmad Jamal & Vince Guaraldi.
Hear firsthand what six decades of practice and more than 80 years of lived experience sounds like when masterfully translated through music.
SPECIAL GUEST - KIM NALLEY, JAZZ AND BLUES VOCALIST. Long a fixture in the San Francisco Bay area as a high-quality soulful jazz and blues singer, very much in the tradition of the best vocalists of the 1940s and ‘50s, Kim Nalley is always exciting to hear. She keeps the style alive without copying any of her predecessors, singing vintage songs in her own way while clearly enjoying herself.
"God, can this woman sing! It’s as if a vocalist from the great post-war blues and jazz combos had been transported to the end of the century." —Blues Access Magazine
LARRY VUCKOVICH is a Yugoslavian-born pianist and longtime Bay Area resident who has played alongside a veritable who's who in the Jazz world, including Dexter Gordon, Jon Hendricks, and Philly Joe Jones. Larry is joined by collaborators Kai Lyons on guitar and Doug Miller on the bass.
As a 20-year-old, DOUG MILLER accomplished an amazing feat. He played with the great Count Basie Orchestra with the Count on piano himself. He also performed with the Duke Ellington Orchestra under the leadership of Duke' s son Mercer. Doug also played with other, more contemporary musicians such as James Moody and Charles McPherson, the leading alto saxophonist in the USA. Doug is also a composer and had his works played by the Oakland Symphony.
The young guitarist KAI LYONS, has been the hottest guitarist and the Bay Area for a number of years. He travels and tours constantly to such places as Ghana, Brazil, Cuba and even Morocco, where he recently performed in Marrakesh. Just a couple weeks ago he came back from France performing in Paris and in South of France.
