Directed by Betsy West, Julie Cohen
Starring José Andrés, Julia Child
Documentary that chronicles the life of Julia Child. ‘JULIA’ tells the story of the legendary cookbook author and television superstar who changed the way Americans think about food, television, and even about women. Using never-before-seen archival footage, personal photos, first-person narratives, and cutting-edge, mouth-watering food cinematography, the film traces Julia Child’s surprising path, from her struggles to create and publish the revolutionary Mastering the Art of French Cooking (1961) which has sold more than 2.5 million copies to date, to her empowering story of a woman who found fame in her 50s, and her calling as an unlikely television sensation.
About the Directors:
Betsy West and Julie Cohen are documentary filmmakers that focus their time and energy on cultivating successful creative partnerships, the nuances of female leadership, and the immense importance of telling stories that matter. Together, the filmmaking partners have directed four biographical documentary films focusing on American women: RBG (2018), My Name is Pauli Murray (2021), Julia (2021) and Gabby Giffords Won't Back Down (2022).
Special Guest:
Join Alex Prud'homme, author of The French Chef in America: Julia Child’s Second Act for a Q&A following the film JULIA. Prud'homme collaborated with his great aunt Julia Child on the book My Life in France and her memoir of discovering food and life in postwar Paris and Marseille. In 2023, Prud'homme published Dinner With The President: Food, Politics, and a History of Breaking Bread at the White House. Alex Prud'homme is also a producer on JULIA.
