Water: Essential in Art and Life
Water: Essential in Art and Life is a Cameo Cinema program that will raise awareness and appreciation for the inspirational aspect of our oceans, rivers, and bays. Over the months of April and May, the program will explore the essential role of water both as a vital component for all life forms and as a source of inspiration for film, literature, sculpture, and more. This program is made possible by a grant from the County of Napa's Art and Culture Advisory Committee with additional support from the Cameo Cinema Foundation.

"Promise and Peril of Deep-sea Mining"

Narrated and executive produced by Jason Momoa, this documentary takes viewers on an epic journey from the ocean's depths to the future of sustainable energy. DEEP RISING sheds light on the secretive International Seabed Authority (ISA), responsible for nearly half our planet’s surface on the ocean floor, while highlighting the vital need to protect the seabed as the common heritage of humankind and stressing the urgency of responsible choices for future generations.
Q&A following the film with Stephen Palumbi, Professor of Marine Biology, Hopkins Marine Station.
Steve has long been fascinated by how quickly the world around us changes. Work on the genomics of marine organisms tries to focus on basic evolutionary questions but also on practical solutions to questions about how to preserve and protect the diverse life in the sea. Work at the Hopkins Marine Station focuses on how kelp, sea urchins, abalone and mussels respond to short term environmental changes and to environmental shifts over small spatial scales. TICKETS>
The Science on Screen® grant initiative brings science to cinemas nationwide. The Coolidge Corner Theater's series has enhanced film and scientific literacy with this popular program, which was created in partnership with the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.
