The monarch butterfly is a true marvel of nature. Weighing less than a penny, it makes one of the longest migrations on Earth across a continent to a place it has never known. Follow the monarchs’ perilous journey and join hundreds of millions of real butterflies in the remote mountain peaks of Mexico, with breathtaking cinematography from an award winning team including Oscar® winner Peter Parks. Be captivated by the true and compelling story of an intrepid scientist’s 40-year search to find the monarchs’ secret hideaway. Unravel the mysteries and experience the Flight of the Butterflies.
In celebration of St. Helena’s Monarch and Pollinator Awareness Month in the month of May, please join us on Memorial Day, Monday May 31, for a fun family pollinator event. The Cameo will be screening Flight of the Butterflies at 11:00 am followed by a Q & A with the Co-Founder of the Western Monarch Society of Napa County to discuss the current state of the western monarch butterfly and what you as an individual can do to help re-establish habitat to prevent this species from going extinct. The Western Monarch Society will be passing out free native milkweed plants (the sole host plant for the monarch caterpillar) to community members who have space to create a little extra pollinator habitat in their home gardens. If you can’t make the event on Memorial Day, but still want plants, please visit the Western Monarch Society on Fridays in the month of May at the St. Helena Farmers’ Market or contact them at westernmonarchsociety@gmail.com.
